Michael Stevenson
Vice President, Global Education for Cisco Systems Inc & Non Executive Director with Granada Learning
Michael developed his expertise in education technology through his work with in government and the media. After studying Classics at Oxford, Michael's first appointment was as graduate trainee for the BBC where he quickly progressed to making programmes specialising in politics and religion. He founded and edited the flagship political programme ‘On the Record' before branching into management as BBC Secretary during the period leading up to the successful 1996 Charter Renewal. In the same year, he became Deputy Director of Nations and Regions, leading BBC Scotland and BBC Wales through the political devolution.
Michael established the BBC's Factual and Learning Directorate in 2000 and for the next 3 years was responsible for factual programmes and content across television, radio and online. He also spearheaded an innovative education strategy, creating an online curriculum for children at school and at home.
This period with the media was followed by work with the government and Michael became Director of Strategy at the Department of Education and Skills in England. Until September 2006 he was then Chief Information Officer and Director of Technology, helping to drive the use of ICT in schools, colleges and universities.
Currently, Michael also serves as a Non-Executive Director with education technology company, Granada Learning, and he is on the board of Khulisa, a South African not-for-profit organisation specialising in restorative justice.
